The name ‘Athmeeya Yatra’ is synonymous to the people of Kerala, with the blessed messages that has enriched their day, for the past quarter of a century.

It was 25 years ago, in 1985, that our Beloved Metropolitan, His. Eminence. The Most Rev. Dr. K.P. Yohannan started a radio program entitled, ‘a spiritual journey for 50 days’. Within a short while, thousands of letters from people belonging to all walks of life started pouring into the ‘Athmeeya Yatra’ offices. Each letter represented the heartbreak and cries of the common man. The letters included longing to find solutions for life’s problems; letters requesting prayer and counseling and so on. Encouraged by this response and guided by the Holy Spirit, our Metropolitan took up topics like alcoholism, suicide, family problems, infant foetid, divorce, mental breakdowns, loneliness, how to bring up children, a healthy family, communication, interpersonal relations and the radio program continued with wide spread popularity. As a result, many thousands of individuals and families found the way to peace through these programs.

This year is the silver jubilee of Athemeeya Yatra. Some years later, similar radio programs were started in Hindi, Tamil and Kannada languages. What started as a small one language radio broadcast, transformed itself into the largest Christian radio ministry presently having programs in 110 languages of Asia. ‘Athemeya Yatra’ now has about 150 Radio program producers and 12 recording studios in India and neighbouring nations.It has been acknowledged that, ‘Athmeeya Yatra’, the radio program of the Believers Church, is heard in the most number of languages in Asia. In Nepal, ‘Athemeya Yatra’ is being aired on more than 40 FM Radio stations reaching every nook and corner of that nation.
It is of note that ‘Akashavani’ the Malayalam division of All India Radio is also airing’ Athmeeya Yatra’ programs, weekly. This speaks volumes about the impact this program has made at a national level. To the scores of people who respond to these radio programs through letters, telephone calls and e- mails, an effective Follow-Up Department functions, offering counseling, guidance and prayer.

In several parts of the nation, there are also ‘listener groups’ formed by the regular Athmeeya Yatra program audience. Youth Classes being held under the direction of ‘Athmeeya Yathra’ are deeply involved in social activities. The ‘Athmeeya yatra’ team also involves in many other activities such as AIDS awareness camps, medical camps, musical programs, student aptitude and guidance seminars, panel discussions and disaster relief activities.‘Athmeeya Yatra’ continues to bring the message of God’s love to the masses and also helps to foster the growth of religious harmony and universal brotherhood by urging people to fight against social evils.
